The inscriptions, on the base of this bust (Antoninus Pius) and that of another bust located in the Salone, also a modern one known as Trajan, indicate that they were acquired by the Conservatori on 8 March 1583.

The bust may indeed date to the 16th century, based on its sculpting style.
