Torso of a Discobolus

Inv. Scu 241

Only the torso of this remarkable and very famous statue is ancient and it seems to be an excellent remaking of the Discobolus that the Greek sculptor Myron made in 460 BC.

The identification with a wounded warrior about to fall is the result of the reworking by the French sculptor Pierre-Etienne Monnot .

The work was probably found in Rome.
