Upper part of a statue representing a woman

Inv. Scu 1125

Probably this female bust was part of a statue of a Muse.

The character wears a peplum, under which an underwear garment is visible covering her arms; a goatskin, tied on her left shoulder, drops down under her right arm.

The head belongs to a type that finds quite a few comparisons with a head of Dionysus of the 3rd century BC.

The fragment was found near the Villa Palombara on the Esquiline hill.
