Inv. Scu 845
The herm depicts a young man with massive features. His high and spacious forehead is brushed by the small, wavy locks of the hair. His eyes are slightly sunken, with thin eyebrows. His lips are fleshy, above a slightly protruding chin.
The character portrayed has not been identified, although it bears some similarity with some replicas of the portraits of Menander, the original version of which, perhaps reworked in Rhodes around the years 230-220 BC, has been ascribed to the sons of Praxiteles.
This item was found in the Auditorium of Maecenas.
