Modern bust of emperor Trajan

Inv. Scu 630

The colossal bust of the emperor Trajan may date to the 16th century, based on the sculpting style.

The inscription on its base makes reference to the acquisition of the pedestal (not the bust) by the Conservatori March 8, 1583.

On the same day another base was bought for the equally modern bust of Antoninus Pius. Probably both busts came from different collections, though.
