Male portrait

Inv. Scu 361

Male head set on a modern bust. The portrait features an elderly man with the head briskly turned to right.

The rather frowned eyebrows and the eyes, wide-open and marked by deep sockets, bestow a scowling expression on the portrait. Deep wrinkles are carved on the forehead, at the root of the nose and to either side of the mouth. The lips are slightly parted above a receding chin. The eyes have iris and pupil incised.

The hair, arranged in small curls, follows the shape of the forehead and the skull.

The head can be dated to the early 3rd century AD.
